Red Light Therapy in Las Vegas
Red light therapy was first used in space in the early 1990s at the International Space Station. Scientists found that the intense light from red light-emitting diodes (LEDs) helped promote growth and photosynthesis of plant cells. This red light energy was used to grow plants in space.
From those findings, studies then looked at more potential uses of red light therapy. Initially, these were seeking to use red light therapy to treat issues of weightlessness in space, things such as muscle atrophy and slow wound healing.
A variety of surprising benefits came out of this research. We offer red light therapy at Slim Sculpt Studios.
What is Red Light Therapy?
At Slim Sculpt Studios, we deliver our red light therapy treatments to the body in our Slim Sculpt Medical Bed. The bed uses medical-grade LEDs to deliver concentrated wavelengths of natural light to your skin and cells, without dangerous UV rays or excess heat.
Specific light wavelengths deliver the benefits. These are red and near infrared light. Our Slim Sculpt Medical Bed delivers red light in the mid-600 nanometer range. Near infrared light is delivered in the mid-800 nanometer range.
What are the benefits of this red light therapy?
The key to the benefits of red light therapy is adenosine triphosphate (ATP). All living things need to make ATP cellular energy to function and survive. Natural light powers these processes in the cells of all living things. Red and near infrared wavelengths stimulate mitochondria in the cells. Mitochondria work to take light, oxygen, and food and turn it into usable energy.
The science can get a little complicated, but the basic concept that came from initial red light therapy research was that these wavelengths could have various effects on the cells and they expand from there.
These are the benefits of red light therapy:
- Increased collagen production
- Improved skin tone, texture, and condition
- Enhanced weight loss
- Reduced joint pain and inflammation
- Faster muscle recovery
- Improved sleep
- Better physical performance
How long do you stay in the Slim Sculpt Medical Bed?
Our patients spend just 15 minutes in the red light LED bed. The light is delivered across the entire body, but not the face.
How often should I have these sessions?
These are safe, completely non-invasive treatments. Our Slim Sculpt Medical Bed delivers natural light, but it blocks certain wavelengths, delivering only red light and near-infrared wavelengths.
The frequency of your sessions depends on your goals. We’ll talk to you about frequency during your consultation.
How does red light therapy work?
Our cells use natural light for energy creation and other functions. The most benefits come from the red wavelengths at 660 nm and near infrared wavelengths at 850 nm. Since that early research on red light therapy and its effect on plants and humans in space, there have been hundreds of clinical studies on its effectiveness.
How does red light therapy work for weight loss?
When we deliver the red light and near infrared light onto your body, the LED energy penetrates your skin into the dermis and fat layers. When this energy hits the subcutaneous fat cells, the light energy signals the mitochondria to open tiny pores in the cells. Through these pores the cells release fat and cellular waste. The body then eliminates this fat and cellular waste through the lymphatic system over the course of the next few weeks. This reduces fat and slims your contour.
How does red light therapy improve my skin?
Collagen is responsible for providing the underlying support structure for our skin. This long-chain amino acid is the most abundant protein in the human body. The problem is, as we age our body produces one less percentage point of collagen every year after we celebrate our 20th birthday. That means by the time we hit 50, we’re producing 30 percent less collagen than in our younger days.
That’s why our skin thins, sags, forms lines and wrinkles, and looks older. Various cosmetic treatments, such as fractional laser treatments, seek to boost collagen production by creating wounds in the dermis layer of the skin. This is effective, but these treatments also usually involve some degree of downtime and recovery.
Red light therapy boosts collagen production in a different way, through the cellular level. Red and near infrared wavelength light stimulates the mitochondria in your cells, and this boosts collagen production.
Red light therapy improves these skin issues:
- Fine lines and wrinkles
- Uneven skin texture
- Acne scarring
- Large pores
- Skin laxity
Will red light therapy hurt my eyes?
Red light therapy is not the same as laser energy. Still, we provide eye protection during your Slim Sculpt Studios red light therapy sessions.
Will I see immediate results from red light therapy?
These treatments work through your body’s cellular level, in effect, creating improvements from within, so your results aren’t immediate. Collagen production ramps up over the days following your treatment. The same is true with fat reduction and body contouring. The cells first shed their fat and waste products, but then the body must pass them through the lymphatic system. This starts the slimming process that continues over the next few weeks.
